Team Grant/Garcia Win Sufercross Title

Surfercross has been going strong for 11 years now. The Toyota Surfercross presented by Muscle Milk featured the top athletes from surfing and motocross. The event participation was invite-only, but fans were welcome to come out and watch the athletes. This year’s overall winners received one-of-a-kind engraved guitars, courtesy of Fender. Skull Candy and FMF also gave custom trophies for the surf and moto winners. The competitors were paired through random draw and they race and surf as a team. Josh teamed up with Sunny Garcia and won the overall pro division.

Taking Gold at X Games 16 Super X

Just last year Grant suffered a crash at X Games 15 breaking both his feet in his heat race. Starting fresh this year he was looking for redemption in the Los Angeles Coliseum.  Both Grant and his teammate Justin Brayton qualified easily for the main event.  When the gate fell for the final, it was two-time Super X Gold Medalist Josh Hansen in the lead with Grant and Brayton pushing hard to be in the top spot. Grant closed in and made his move for the lead on lap 11 and led for the remainder of the race.  When the checkered flag flew it was Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGRMX rider winning his first ever Gold Medal.

Lakewood Results, Grant Wins Moto One

Thunder Valley Motocross Park is 5,450 feet above sea-level, by far the highest of any track on the circuit. The elevation did not seem to affect Josh Grant.  After qualifying on the pole, he began the first moto in seventh position.  By the second lap he had moved into third, and on lap five he took the lead from the current series point leader.  Grant lead the remaining 11 laps unchallenged for his first moto win of the 2010 season. “I got a decent start which is what I needed,” said Grant on the victory podium to the crowd and the SPEED television cameras.  “I want to thank Joe Gibbs, Muscle Milk, Toyota and Yamaha, all of our hard work is paying off.”

Unfortunately, the second moto start was not the same as the first as the #33 was on the ground in 40th place.  He remounted and began an inspired charge to the front, passing riders in groups as he advanced.  In only three laps he had passed more than half of the field finding himself in 18th.  Just after the halfway mark Grant was amazingly in the top-10, finishing the moto in 10th position. Grant’s 1-10 moto scores gave him fourth place for the day and retains sixth in series points.

The next race of the series will be July 3 at Red Bud so stay tuned and check out the racing.
